the golden City by the River

Hoi an, The golden City
Camera: Nikon FE2
Film: Portra 400
My journey thru the Golden City of Hoi An, all starts and ends with this unique old man.
This was one of the first photos I took in my adventures exploring this vibrant and historical city.
Hội An (會安) translates as "peaceful meeting place" in Chinese. Formerly named, Fai-Fo or Faifoo, Old Town Hội An, is recognized as an exceptionally well-preserved Southeast Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century, its buildings and street plan reflecting a blend of indigenous and foreign influences.
Smack in the middle of Vietnam, its located 30kms south of Danang. Arguably one of the most beautiful mountain drives ever.
Here are the people of Hoi An and my Journey to reconnect with an amazing stranger.

The Old Man By the River
During my last ride thru the city, I jumped off my motorcycle to head towards the river to say my goodbyes. As I approached the river, I saw the same old man smoking in his boat, docked by the river.
As I put the camera to my face, he waved me down to come to the river. The old man had recognized me during our brief encounter during my first day in Hoi An. He asked if I wanted to join him in his boat. I happily obliged, offered a cigarette to the man and then we were off on our River Journey. Picked up the oar and started paddling out on the river as the sun was just about to set over the city of Hoi An.
No words were spoken, as we sat there smoking a cigarette and paddling, together trying to guess the other’s thoughts as we both stared off into the sunset. That day was very special. Being able to share a moment of silence with a stranger, as we both observed the sun setting over the Golden City.
Here’s my journey.
